Mr. Anil Kapoor is a partner at Sat Dev Om Prakash (SDOP) . Sat Dev Om Prakash (SDOP) has been serving the sugar industry for 70 years. Anup Kumar is MD and CEO of Sucden India. In this role, since 2019, he has been instrumental in making Sucden the merchant of choice for sugar mills, industrials, and public distribution networks across India. Sucden India, connects its varied portfolio of suppliers to global and domestic buyers, and aims to be an efficient supply chain participant, focussing on controlled exposures and financial returns. It delivers these objectives through a motivated high-performance team. Prior to Sucden, Anup spent over two decades with Olam Singapore in different roles, the last of which was as the head of their white sugar trading team. A voracious reader and an eager traveller, Anup is a Chemical Engineer from IIT Benares and an alum of IIM Calcutta.
Mr. Atul Chaturvedi is a veteran in the Vegetable Oil/ Oil seeds and Agro Business of the Country. He has more than four decades of successful and varied general and strategic management experience in the field of Manufacturing, Trading and Agri Infrastructure Development. He has been associated with Adani Group since 1998 and has played a key role in the development of the Agro and Agri Infrastructure business of the Group. He is currently Executive Chairman Of Renuka Sugars Ltd as well as Senior Advisory Of Adani Wilmar. These Companies where he is associated are market leaders in their category and have done pioneering work. A widely travelled International Trader, he has hands on experience in handling Agro Products, Vegetable Oils, Grains, Sugar, Ethanol Distilleries, Oilseeds, Apples, Agri Infrastructure etc. both within and outside India. Mr. Chaturvedi has received many awards/recognitions over the years, like Best Analyst award from ZEE, Agri leadership award etc. He was declared as “Globoil Man of the Year-2013” for his contribution to Vegetable Oil Industry.
Dr. Bakshi Ram, is a Former Director of Sugarcane Breeding Institute, ICAR -Coimbatore. He spent his life doing research in sugarcane and evolving new sugar varieties. The new Co 0238 variety is a sucrose rich variety, which has substantially improved the recovery rate of sugar factories especially in Northern India, thus increasing sugar production in the country and enabling factories to divert a part of sucrose for production of ethanol. The area covered by varieties evolved under his leadership during 2020-21 sugar season stood at 3.14 million ha, which is about 60% of the total sugarcane area in the country.
Benjamin is a Senior Sugar Trader at Czarnikow and leads the VIVE Sustainable Supply Programme development in the Asia Region. He has been at Czarnikow for 11 years, working primarily as a Chartering Manager in the Raw Sugar team, then working as a sugar trader in sub-Saharan Africa. He is now based in Singapore, trading refined sugar across Asia. He has extensive experience in agriculture and sustainable agricultural systems and holds Bsc Hon Degree in Agricultural Business Management. During the last 7 years, Ben has focused on developing the VIVE Programme in Asia. He has worked closely with Multinational buyers of sugar and with mills, refineries, financial institutes, and shipping companies globally to build commercially viable sustainable supply chains of sugar from farm to end-user.
Head of Nutrition Science Department and also leads the public health based- CSR & Sustainability vertical at ITC’s Foods Division. She is responsible for executing the Product Pipeline (for both Innovation & Renovation) along with the corporate R&D. She supports regulatory policy & process development for appropriate marketing & product development areas. She is member of many national & international Nutrition, Scientific & Regulatory committees in developing & supporting the Poshan 2.0 commitments, mapped to UNSDG 2030 targets.
Prior to ITC she was in GSK as India lead- Innovations and Before that in Nestle as -Nutrition Specialist. She has published multiple scientific papers in international journals in the area of maternal & child health, bone health & public health issues at large. She is Ph.D in Nutrition from D.U and INMAS (DRDO).
Mr. Bhavesh Thakkar is a second-generation entrepreneur who is currently managing the business of Shri Mahalaxmi Sugars which was established in the year 1983 by Mr. Jethmal Thakkar (Fondly known as Jetu BHAI). It’s a family-owned and managed business that is currently speer headed by Mr. Bhavesh Thakkar and Mr. Nitin Thakkar and follows the strong foundation set up by their father for the business.
Mr. Bhavesh is a commerce graduate situated in Kolhapur. With more than 2 decades of market experience & knowledge he is making sure the company is firmly going forward and scaling new heights.
Chris earned a BSc in Brewing and Biological Sciences at Heriot-Watt University in 1981. He started his career at Traquair House Ales (a small brewery attached to the oldest inhabited house in Scotland – using equipment dating back to the 1700’s). Chris then spent 3 years in micro-brewing both running and setting up in-house breweries. He then transferred to Hall and Woodhouse, a brewery in Dorset, and spent time in each production area including the high speed packaging line. During this time, Chris completed the Institute of Brewing Master Brewer Diploma. He then travelled overseas to Karachi to help set up and build a small brewery where he also ran a potable spirits blending unit. On returning to the UK, he joined William Grant & Sons in Girvan, the third largest grain whisky plant in Scotland. After 5 years of running the process area he left for America to join Alltech, working out of Brookings SD to cover the growing fuel alcohol industry. Chris joined Lallemand Ethanol Technology following Lallemand’s acquisition of the Alltech Alcohol division working and worked as a Technical Sales Representative.
Chris became the NA Sales Manager in 2005, and in 2007 took on the responsibility of Global Sales. Chris came into his current role with the acquisition of North American BioProducts Corp. Chris has taken on a significant number of speaking roles both in the USA and internationally to help educate the industry, along with authoring scientific articles and two chapters in the 6th edition of “The Alcohol Textbook”.
Dr Claudiu Covrig is Founder and Lead Agriculture Analyst of CovrigAnalytics, an independent provider of market research, analysis, forecasts, supply & demand, trade flows and policy information for the sugar and ethanol markets. Claudiu’s expertise includes market research, trade flows, forecasts, international arbitrages, futures and swaps trading combined with academic work focussed on management, economics and renewable energy markets and systems. He often serves as a speaker or chairman at international conferences. With over 18 years’ experience, prior to founding CovrigAnalytics, Claudiu worked as a market research analyst and consultant with S&P Global Platts and Kingsman in Switzerland, and traded futures and swaps with Sucden in Geneva. He was also a research associate and university assistant professor in Switzerland and Romania. Claudiu has a PhD degree from Transilvania University of Brasov, with a focus on renewable and conventional energy markets and systems. In addition, he has a Master’s degree in Engineering Design and Management of Renewable Energy Sources, and a diploma in Economic Engineering.
A sales and marketing professional with over 14 yrs of experience, 13 yrs of it in the brand and category management function of Food FMCGs within and outside India. Passionate about the branding of agro commodities – the Scale, the Challenge and the Indian Market.
G K Sood is a veteran of the commodities arena. His career has taken him through the areas of Oil and Natural Gas, Steel, Agri Industry, and trading in commodities. Currently, he is an Advisor to Godavari Biorefineries besides holding Board positions in K N Agri Resources and MEIR Commodities. He has served on the Board of Shree Renuka Sugars and also held the positions of Chairman ( Agri) of Noble Resources India and CEO of Louis Dreyfus Commodities India, besides having headed a State Level Farmers’ Cooperative Federation engaged in Oilseeds and Vegetable Oils. He is an alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics. While with the National Council of Applied Economic Research, he researched issues related to India’s industrial development. He has also had a stint with the Government of India in the area of policy formulation. He has to his credit successful turnaround of a sick industrial unit entrusted to him under provisions of the Industries Development and Regulation Act.
Gurdev Gill leads the global sugar franchise over the past ten years at Marex building and developing the Sugar and Ethanol business to become one of the leading clearing and executing brokers in the space. Alongside Robin Shaw the team have created one of the most in-depth and far reaching research products in the market. Gurdev, who also covers the grains markets, was previously at European Credit Management. He has a BSc in Management Science from the University of Manchester.

Mr. Dandegaonkar has visited almost all the major sugar producing countries like Australia, China, Brazil, Malaysia, Mauritius, Thailand, Dubai in addition to other countries like Singapore, Japan, Saudi Arabia and shared his knowledge in upliftment of the sugar sector in India.
Shri Jitender Juyal is Joint Director, Directorate of Sugar & Vegetable Oils, Department of Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. He has been working in the Sugar Division of DFPD dealing with Policy matters and implementation of Policies relating to the sugar and ethanol sector for the past about 8 years.
He is a graduate in Science [B.Sc. (General)] from Delhi University; Post Graduate Executive Program (PGEP) in Financial Markets from the National Institute of Financial Management, Faridabad.
Kona Haque joined ED&F Man in May 2014 as Group Head of Research, responsible for the company’s commodity and macroeconomic research team (including Volcafe coffee). She joined from Macquarie Bank where she was responsible for agriculture and soft commodities research for seven years. Prior to that, Kona spent four years as Senior Commodities Editor / Economist at the Economist Group. She has also worked for a shipping consultancy as Director of Bulk Commodities and spent four years at Metal Bulletin Research, specializing in base metals. Her other experiences include working as an economist for a grains market information provider and with the United Nations in Rome, Italy. Kona has an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BSc in Agricultural Economics from Reading University.
Manoj Balgi is Vice President, Procurement at Britannia and has been with the company since 2009. He is responsible for managing procurement of raw materials, packing materials, capex and projects. Manoj holds a B.E. (Mechanical) from Pune University and a PG in Industrial Management from National Institute of Industrial Engineering.

Nilesh Shah is Group President & Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Co. Ltd.
He has over 30 years of experience in capital markets having worked in ICICI Group, Axis Bank Group and Franklin Templeton. He has been part of the teams that received the “Best Fund House of the Year” Award at Franklin Templeton, ICICI Prudential and also at Kotak Mutual Fund. Nilesh is a Board Member of AMFI, a Member of SEBI’s CoBoSAC committee and a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.
Peter joined Wilmar in Singapore in 2018 when Wilmar acquired Bunge’s sugar trading business. Before this Peter had been at Bunge for 10 years both having had a range of responsibilities from Futures trading to research and finally heading the Asian sugar business. Peter started his career in sugar at Tate & Lyle in London in 2006.
Mr. Praful Vithalani is the proprietor of Sugar Brokerage, Jagjivan Keshavji & Co, a second-generation firm. He enjoys unique respectability across the spectrum viz, the Government of India, sugar millers, trade houses, brokers, and sugar consumers. His views are sought for his impartiality and objectivity. True to the expanse of influence, he has been instrumental, along with some other like-minded persons, to form the All India Sugar Trade Association six years ago to be the representative voice of India’s sugar sector, be it Millers, Trade houses, Brokers, Sugar Distribution Trade, Superintendence Agencies, Brokerages, Forwarders, Investors, etc. He is the founder chairman of the Association. The Association has gained an exceptional measure of respectability in the short period of its existence. Prafulbhai, as he is affectionately addressed, has been served the influential Bombay Sugar Merchants Association as a member of its Managing Committee for over 35 years, where he is respected for his mature counsel. He is an alumnus of Bombay University, which has conferred on him the degree of Bachelor of Commerce.
Mr. Prakash Naiknavare is the veteran of sugar sector having a long and fruitful association of more than 23 years with sugar sector. He is currently the Managing Director of NFCSF. India’s National Sugar Federation, an apex body represents all the 258 cooperative sugar mills & 9 state sugar federations across India. In the current position, he has threefold responsibility viz. parenting of member mills, providing technical consultancy to sugar mills, within & outside India & play a key role in India’s policy advocacy on sugarcane, sugar & downstream value added by-products. Academically, he has basic graduation in Agriculture Science & Post graduate Diplomas in Business Management and Marketing Management. He also had a 5 year tenure as Country Head – India of Sugar Maxx Inc., a US based MNC, which has developed 100% organic products / agri-input which aids sugar recovery in Sugarcane, Grapes, Pomegranates and Banana Plantations. Mr. Naiknavare has been closely associated with India’s Sugar / Sugarcane/ Ethanol / Co-generation related policies. He has to his honour of having contributed in various high power committees appointed by Government of India. Mr. Naiknavare has widely travelled across the globe & has visited almost all the major sugar producing countries. He has to his credit having addressed number of Sugar conferences within & outside India.
Raj Paul Bhagria is the Chief Executive Officer of All India Sugar Trade Association [AISTA], New Delhi, which is an association of all stake holders in the sugar sector. A member of elite Indian Economic Service, he has served the Government of India in various senior positions dealing with economic policy matters, particularly those relating to sugar and sugarcane. He has held the position of Advisor in the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) , a body responsible for advising the Government of India in the matter of pricing of crops and policies pertaining to the sector. He has also held the position of Chief Director, Sugar for over five years. He retired from service in July, 2012, after putting in 32 years. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer in the All India Sugar Trade Association. He is a Post graduate in Economics from Punjab University and M. Phil. (Economic Planning) from Glasgow University, U.K. He also hold the law degree from Delhi University.
Rahil Shaikh, Managing Director, MEIR Commodities India Pvt. Ltd., a freshly recognized agro commodity trading firm focusing on domestic and international markets in various commodities like Sugar, Ethanol, Molasses, Edible Oil, Organics etc., Rahil Shaikh till recently Managing Director of ED&F Man India (prior to MEIR) started his career with Man agents in 1994 and thereafter joined ED&F Man as a full time Director in 2006. Rahil has 25 years’ experience with the Indian sugar industry. He is among the few diverse personalities beloved by the sugar industry for its expertise and thought process for the betterment and success of the Indian Sugar Industry. He is also Vice president of All India Sugar Trader Association (AISTA) and has been expert speaker on agri commodities in India. Rahil has studied science and literature from Mumbai University.
Mr. Ravi Gupta is Executive Director of Shree Renuka Sugars Limited. He has 30 years of multi agro commodity experience in Sugar, Ethanol, Grains and Oilseeds etc. He has been working with Renuka Sugars since 2013. He is a Commerce Graduate and a Post Grade in Forest Management from Indian Institute of Forest Management. He started his career with Govt. run cooperative “TRIFED” and was the Managing Director of Noble (now COFCO) in India prior to joining Renuka Sugar in 2013. Other companies he has worked with are – Louis Dreyfus, Bajaj Hindustan Limited, Australia Wheat Board.
He is is passionate about sugar and ethanol industry in India and have contributed immensely to Ethanol Blending Policy in India. He is honorary member of West India Sugar Mills Association (WISMA), Member of task force on Sugar and Bioenergy of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Member of Ethanol Group of Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE), Chairman of Export and Ethanol Committee of AISTA.
Mr. Roshan Lal Tamak heads the Sugar and Ethanol businesses at DCM Shriram Ltd as its Executive Director & CEO. He brings with him more than three decades of distinguished professional experience of leading large organizations towards strategic growth in the Indian Sugar Sector. He has made his mark in the industry by successfully handling a gamut of assignments ranging from setting up green field as well as brown field expansion projects, managing strategic acquisitions, and turning around companies during his tenure with leading Indian & multinational companies like Balrampur, Dhampur, Mawana & Olam International. Mr. Tamak is a passionate sustainability practitioner and has been championing the cause of income growth of both small & marginal farmers by significantly improving agricultural productivity, introduction of good management practices. He also brings in the experience of running multi-stakeholder partnerships with multilateral agencies, global FMCG majors, civil society organizations and development banks for furtherance of sustainability initiatives. Mr Tamak is a regular speaker at various national & international seminars as well as academic institutions. He is widely travelled and exposed to best global practices in the industry and has attended numerous leadership programs in institutes like IIM-Ahmadabad, Tata Management Training Centre, Pune and Corporate Coach Institute, Singapore.
Sanchayan is a Partner at Aavishkaar Capital. He manages Aavishkaar’s South and South-east Asia focussed impact fund, and is currently leading Aavishkaar Capital’s climate platform efforts, including a specific focus on investments in nature-based solutions. Sanchayan has over 25 years of experience in fund management and investment banking across Asia and Middle East. Prior to joining Aavishkaar in 2013, Sanchayan managed leveraged and acquisition finance at Standard Chartered Bank. Sanchayan’s previous experience includes leading M&A and project and structured finance franchises for Bank of America, ING Barings and ING Vysya Bank. Santosh is Managing Director at Intellecap and he leads the Climate and Agri Solution practice at Intellecap. He supports clean energy entrepreneurs with knowledge, network, and capital solutions at Intellecap. He has more than 15 years of experience in Base of the Pyramid (BoP) market development with a focus on energy access, climate resilient agriculture and climate/carbon finance. Before joining Intellecap, Santosh was working with the World Bank (South Asia Region) where his work focused on developing affordable energy access solutions, and climate finance interventions for various sectors.
In past, he has worked as Technical Expert for GIZ and led Rural Market Insight program at the Institute for Financial Management and Research. He has also advised Tata Trusts, CLEAN, GIZ and several social enterprises on energy access, result based financing and last-mile distribution models. He has authored several publications on energy access and BoP markets and presented his work to practitioners and academic audiences. He is a Mathematics graduate and has a post-graduate degree from Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal.
Sanjay Khatal is a Senior Level Management Personnel with over 40 years of experience in the Agri-inputs and Processed Foods Industry. After his graduation in the Agricultural Engineering faculty with a B. Tech (AE) degree, he has worked in the Private, Co-operative and Public Sector (Govt.) companies at different levels and varied portfolios. He has served as Director (Commercial) in National Seeds Corporation Ltd, New Delhi (A Mini Ratna Company) and presently working as Managing Director of Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Ltd., Mumbai. He has handled various portfolios including Fertilizers, Agro-chemicals, Animal Feeds, Agricultural Machinery & Implements, Processed foods and Agricultural seeds. Presently apart from catering to the Sugar Industry he is also handling responsibilities as Director General of Cogeneration Association of India, Pune. To his credit is also a teaching stint with Symbiosis Institute of International Business for the Agri Business Management faculty. Highly dedicated to whatever assignments he chooses to pursue he is an excellent team builder.
Shri Sangeet Singla is a member of Indian Defence Accounts Service (2004 batch). He was appointed Director in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India in September, 2020. Currently, he is holding the post of Chief Director (Sugar Veg Oil), Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils. He holds Master degree in Business Management in the first class from Kurukshetra University.
He has held the various responsible position in the Finance and Accounts Management of Indian Army, Indian Armed Forces and DRDO. Also, he trained new entrants of Civil Services and Army Officers for Finance and Accounts Services as Associate Professor (SG) at National Institute of Financial Management, Ministry of Finance. Further, he remained Finance Officer for Indian Armed Forces at UN Peacekeeping Mission at Sudan.
He is an Indian Administrative Service Officer. He has a vast experience of 25 years as a revenue officer and has worked as Joint Secretary in Chief Minister’s Office in Maharashtra. He is presently working as District Collector, Sangli and is known for his innovative experiments.
He is the regular faculty for the foundation course of Revenue Officers in Yashada, Pune and many other institutes.
